Happy birthday, Kittie Knox (1874-1900), the first African American to be accepted into the League of American Wheelmen (LAW) in 1893. Born to a white mother and Black father in Cambridgeport, when her father died at a young age, her impoverished family moved to the West End where she became a seamstress, and began her cycling interest and skills. She excelled at races in MA, and travelled to compete nationally.
