Description

Promise House, Inc.

Promise House, Inc. is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support and services for youth in crisis, particularly homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth. Founded in 1984, Promise House has evolved into an independent 501(c)(3) organization, expanding its mission to address the multifaceted needs of children and young adults.

History and Mission

The organization was established following a community needs survey by the Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, which identified a significant gap in services for homeless youth. Started with a 16-bed emergency shelter, Promise House has since grown to offer a comprehensive range of programs, including crisis intervention, emergency shelter, long-term housing, case management, counseling, education, and advocacy.

Programs and Services

Promise House operates several programs designed to empower youth and prevent chronic homelessness:

  • Emergency Youth Shelter Program: Provides temporary housing for homeless, runaway, and abandoned youth until permanent homes are found.
  • Transitional Living Program: Equips homeless youth aged 18 to 24 with skills and education necessary to become independent and productive adults.
  • Wesley Inn Program: Offers support and guidance to homeless pregnant and parenting teen mothers, enabling them to become healthy, independent, and nurturing parents.
  • Fannie C. Harris Youth Center: A collaborative initiative to serve homeless youth in Dallas through educational and supportive services.

Collaborations and Partnerships

Promise House collaborates with various organizations to strengthen its impact, including the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance, Dallas Morning News Charities, Parkland Hospital HOMES program, and the Dallas Independent School District, among others.

Strategic Developments

Recently, Promise House has joined forces with Jonathan's Place, enhancing its capacity to serve more children and young adults in need. This strategic partnership aims to provide a broader spectrum of support services for vulnerable populations.
