Wyoming IHC - Repost from @wyoming_hotshots • So far, Roll 1 for the crew has involved assisting with prescribed burn units, treating around 1300 acres in a high-use recreation area near urban interface. The units featured a mix of ponderosa pine and oak/brush, and the objective of burning was to reduce fuel loading to mitigate wildfire risks to nearby communities. These units have been burned previously, but it’s important to try to maintain a healthy burn cycle for the fuel model being treated. Burning on regular intervals helps maintain fuel loading at levels that reduce the risk of fire having a negative impact on the trees and makes it easier for fire managers to treat larger areas. Lassen IHC - Jim “Jaime” Jimenez, former Lassen Hotshot Superintendent is in the hospital with serious medical issues. Your thoughts and prayers would be appreciated by him and his family at this time. Jaime served on the Lassen Hotshots for 22 years, starting in 1980 until he retired in 2002. (fb)
