Funding and Projects

Since its inception, the Hair of the Dog Conservation Fund has raised over $175,000 to support in-situ conservation projects worldwide. The fund sponsors projects across several key areas:

• Habitat Restoration and Conservation: This includes restoring degraded habitats, creating wildlife corridors, purchasing land for conservation, and establishing protected areas such as marine reserves.
• Anti-poaching Initiatives: Funding supports the provision of equipment like night vision binoculars, drones, and vehicles to anti-poaching units in regions with high poaching pressure.
• Wildlife Monitoring Equipment: This includes tools like radio collars, camera traps, and satellite tracking devices to study and protect animals in their natural habitats.

The organization is led by Nicole Begley, a seasoned zoological animal trainer and pet photographer, who serves as president and treasurer. The administrative costs are covered by her for-profit business, Hair of the Dog Academy, ensuring that 100% of donations go directly towards conservation projects. The board also includes experienced professionals like Angi Millwood-Lacinak and Emily Insalaco, who contribute diverse perspectives to guide the organization's mission.

Eligibility Criteria for Grants

Eligible organizations must operate within legal frameworks and not discriminate on any grounds. U.S.-based organizations must be recognized through the IRS Exempt Organizations Select Check. Non-U.S. organizations are evaluated using the IRS's Reliance Standards for Making Good Faith Determinations or Expenditure Responsibility rules.
