Did you know that Memorial Park was built through a true community effort? In 1918, George Hardee of the Rotary Club proposed creating a public park to honor Floridians who died in World War I. Just a year later, the City of Jacksonville bought six acres along the St. Johns River for $125,000 and the planning began! With support from local leaders like Ninah Cummer and Edith Gray, the Citizens Committee raised $52,000 to bring the vision to life, including the iconic Spiritualized Life sculpture. Now that’s what we call teamwork. 💪🌳 (fb)

The Florida Fallen The Florida Fallen refers to the more than 1700 men and women from Florida who died serving in World War I and who are memorialized in this park dedicated on Christmas Day 1924. When the park opened the list contained just 1220 names but thanks to the unstinting efforts of Dr. R. B.
