📸 👉 We’re excited to spotlight Dylan Hernandez, who will make history in his family this fall as the first to attend college when he begins at San Francisco State University! Dylan’s journey connects to our broader mission in a powerful way. While he prepares for this milestone, his mother, Elsa, has transformed her own experience as a parent seeking support for her younger son, Matthew, into becoming a Promotora with our Parent Partner Program, helping other families navigate the education system. “I’m excited for Dylan as he heads to college,” Elsa shares. “I always tell him – don’t do this for me and your dad; you decide what success looks like.” As part of our College Connect program, Dylan has received targeted support throughout his college application process. His acceptance to SF State represents a significant achievement that breaks barriers and creates new possibilities. 👨👩👧👦 This intergenerational impact is at the heart of Mission Graduates’ work. When parents like Elsa find support and develop leadership skills, their children benefit directly. When students like Dylan reach higher education, they inspire others in their community. 🫶 💝 Your support makes these transformative journeys possible. During our spring campaign, every dollar donated will be matched 100%, doubling your impact for families across San Francisco! 👉 Supporting Parent Advocacy: Elsa’s Leadership on Bryant’s ELAC Beyond her daily work connecting families with resources, Elsa Hernandez demonstrates the transformative power of parent leadership through her role as Vice President of Bryant Elementary’s English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). ELACs are required in every San Francisco Unified School District school with 21+ English Learner students, serving as the vital voice of multilingual families in school communities. Through these committees, parents advise on programs, services, and funding allocations that directly impact their children’s education. As ELAC Vice President, Elsa ensures that parents’ perspectives are genuinely heard and valued. She coordinates morning and afternoon outreach during school drop-off and pick-up times, recognizing that meeting parents where they are is key to building participation. “Being involved in ELAC helps parents navigate the system at their child’s school,” Elsa explains. “Many begin feeling unsure about speaking up, but through consistent support, they discover their power to influence educational decisions.” This advocacy work is a crucial part of our Parent Partner Program’s impact across 14 San Francisco schools. Our consistent presence—with 83% of Promotoras returning year after year—builds the trust necessary for effective parent engagement. 🎓💫 Your support makes this vital advocacy work possible. During our spring campaign, every dollar donated will be matched 100%, doubling your impact for families across San Francisco.
