Saturday, 5/31: We will work Twin Peaks Saddle Trail. Meet 7:30 am in La Canada (Angeles Crest Hwy exit from 210, 2 blocks north on the right). We plan to clear trees, cut back brush, fix tread on this trail in the heart of the San Gabriel Wilderness. Hike will be about 8 miles round trip with 2400’ gain. We plan to go in and out from Buckhorn Trailhead. Shorter hike options are available. Expect to return to La Canada around 5 pm. On all trips, please bring a daypack with plenty of water, food and other necessary items. You need to have long sleeves and pants (no shorts), good hiking shoes. We can provide gloves, eye protection and hard hats. For safety you might prefer to bring your own. We will provide tools although you can bring your own if desired. Our crew of 10 worked the Mt. Waterman trail on a beautiful day above the clouds. We cleared all of the trees from the 3 Points Trailhead to the Twin Peaks Junction, about 5 miles. We finally completed the 30” pine in the meadow, restored the switchbacks close to the junction, and cleared a few other trees along the way. The crew also did some brush clearing on the overgrown section closer to the trailhead. (fb)
