May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month! 🎉 Meet Eliza Zeringue, Speech-Language Pathologist - Inpatient Speech Therapy at Ochsner LSU Health! Eliza’s path to speech-language pathology began with personal experience. “I actually went to speech therapy myself as a child and it had a positive impact on me,” she shares. Her mother, also an SLP in rehabilitation, opened Eliza’s eyes to the wide-reaching impact of the profession. “My parents inspired me to learn more about speech therapy and healthcare in general!” Now, Eliza brings that same passion to her work every day. “The field of Speech-Language Pathology is so dynamic. I get to help people with their speech, cognition, and swallowing all in the same day,” she says. Working in the hospital setting, Eliza often supports patients recovering from strokes, neurological conditions, trauma, respiratory issues, and even head and neck cancer. Her evaluations and therapies play a crucial role in helping patients regain independence and quality of life. One myth she’s quick to correct? “People often think we only work with kiddos!
