Ducks Unlimited, Inc.

Ducks Unlimited, Inc. is an American 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of wetlands and associated habitats for waterfowl, other wildlife, and people. Founded in 1937, it is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, and operates across North America.

History

Ducks Unlimited was established during a period of severe drought and economic hardship in North America, known as the Dust Bowl. This era saw significant declines in waterfowl populations due to the lack of suitable habitat. In response, a group of sportsmen and conservationists, including Joseph Palmer Knapp, Robert Winthrop, and E.H. Low, came together to address this issue by forming Ducks Unlimited. The organization was officially incorporated on January 29, 1937.

Mission and Activities

The primary mission of Ducks Unlimited is habitat conservation. It focuses on conserving, restoring, and managing wetlands and associated habitats crucial for North America's waterfowl populations. These efforts also benefit other wildlife and people. Ducks Unlimited Canada

Ducks Unlimited Canada was incorporated shortly after the U.S. chapter, on March 10, 1937, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It operates independently but shares the mission to conserve wetlands and waterfowl habitats.

Ducks Unlimited continues to face challenges in conserving waterfowl habitats as wetlands and other habitats are degraded or destroyed across the continent. Despite these challenges, the organization remains committed to its mission, using diverse public and private partnerships to address habitat erosion.
