On Monday, we hosted a weeding party at the Helsing Junction Farm hedgerow ahead of their Tuesday success tour with some amazing helpers from the Flying Hoofs 4H Club! This weeding party was made possible with the help of the Thurston Youth WIN! project, a great program where qualifying youth groups can earn money for their groups by completing approved projects related to improving water quality and habitat in Thurston County. We had a wonderful time at Helsing Junction Farm last night while we took a tour of their hedgerow, which is on its second year of growth! We learned about the entire process from site prep to ordering plants and supplies to future maintenance. A huge thank you to Farmer Angie and Farmer Jess for hosting and sharing their experience planting the hedgerow, our partners on this project at Thurston Conservation District and the Xerces Society. These success tours are perfect for folks looking install their own hedgerow on any scale or if you are simply interested in learning more about collaborative conservation efforts happening in Washington. We have another tour opportunity next week at Oyster Bay Farms in NW Olympia!
