Putting the work of women writers in the spotlight, by creating charitable grants and mentorships for marginalized and underrepresented writers. This new annual literary award will acknowledge, celebrate and promote fiction by a wider, more diverse, and inclusive group of women and non-binary writers.

Carol Shields Prize for Fiction The Carol Shields Prize for Fiction is the first major Englishlanguage literary prize to celebrate creativity and excellence in fiction by women and nonbinary writers in Canada and the United States awarding 150000 USD to its winner and 12500 USD to each of its four finalists. Prize Award Supported by 2025 Announcement Schedule Longlist March 6 2025 Shortlist April 3 2025 Prize May 1 2025 in Chicago About Carol Shields As a woman who has elected a writing life I am interested in writing away the invisibility of womens lives looking at writing as an act of redemption. In order to do this I need the companionship the example of other women who are writing.
