1 One Achord will tutor and equip guitarists to assist and enhance the music program of the local church and ministriesUPDATE: Founder and Executive Director, Mark Turansky began to see his music lessons turn into counseling sessions and realized that his real gifting and passion was to help others who are struggling in their marriages and with substance abuse. Mark trained his daughter Rylie to continue on with the music aspects of the One Achord vision while he brought another ministry under the umbrella of One Achord. (New Horizons Counseling)Being trained as clergy and a pastor in ministry for 30 years, Mark also stepped aside from his senior pastor role at Pacific-Islands Bible Church on Oahu and turned his attention to the new ministry of One Achord - DBA - New Horizons Counseling.The following are some additions to the educational program aspects of the One Achord ministry to be implemented in 2012. New Horizons counseling will be expanding from exclusively using one to one counseling format to intensive programs for larger groups. Individual counseling will still take place, as one to one is always important for follow up and meeting the needs of individuals, however, group intensives and treatment programs will become more of an emphasis in the future. The details are as follows:Inpatient Alcohol and substance abuse treatment program - The client will engage in an intensive, 80 hour, two week, live in program that will include:• Support group counseling – group interaction, discussion and curriculum reinforcement• Teaching that is designed to help substance abuse treatment patients develop the emotional skills and psychological robustness necessary for long-term functional sobriety• New Horizon “Choice Process” Cognitive Behavioral Therapy program designed to aid development of personal motivation and individual responsibility • Curriculum will integrate Christian Biblical values, principles and ideals as its foundational structure.• Self improvement courses and activities throughout the day including diet and exercise• Life coaching and life skills will be reinforced through a structured environment.• Each client will be able to enjoy several one-on-one personalized counseling sessions that are designed treat the whole person: body, mind and spirit, not just the addiction in an individualized way.• Recreational and physical therapy to bolster self esteem• Homework assignments and outside reading will be required• At the clients request we offer an opportunity for healing for the entire family system by involving spouses or children in the recovery processMarriage Counseling Couple Intensives – Couple intensives are 3 to four day weekend retreats where married couples come to learn skills in: anger management, emotional communication, how to achieve relational intimacy and more. Some details will include:• Communication Skill Building - Using “attachment theory” counselors will guide each couple through the process of understanding their own “Fear Dance.” They will then be coached to replace negative and destructive reaction patterns with healthy and constructive patterns. This time tested form of counseling will ultimately lead to the loving communication each couple longs to have. Other areas we will cover are: Learning to speak your spouses “love language.” • Anger Management skills – This part of the program is divided into three steps:1. Preventing – learning ways to not get angry even when you could get angry by making choices that are constructive rather than destructive2. Containing – learning the 4 ways to contain your anger which are: recognize, retreat, relax and return.3. Resolution – learning and implementing conflict resolution skills in place of destructive anger• Emotional Connection – Each couple will discover how empathy, compassion and understanding are the keys to relational success. They will be coached on how to build trust through learning to be vulnerable. True emotional connection moves past the “being nice” stage into putting another person’s needs on the same level as your own. Clients will learn how to move to deeper levels of intimacy by avoiding common pitfalls of avoidance, peacekeeping, and being a “servant” that, many times, really only create a “pseudo-connection” instead of achieving true, honest and deep authentic emotional connection.
