Mobile Japanese Garden :: Mobile, AL

The Mobile Japanese Garden is home to the Charles Wood Japanese Garden, and the Japanese Garden Studies Center, and the western trailhead of the 3-mile Creek Greenway Trail. This is a natural walking Japanese Garden. We develop, improve, and maintain a free public 16 acre cultural landscape in the heart of Mobile, Alabama. The organization operates trails with 7 ponds of koi, turtles, and lotus blossoms. The major goals of the organization include youth and adult education exchange with Ichihara, Japan; Sumie, Ikebana, Bonsai, and horticultural arts. The Japanese Garden is a foundation of 100% volunteers that operates in conjunction with the Mobile Parks and Recreation Department. Our garden was proclaimed as the largest natural Japanese Garden in the USA by the Emperor. We maintain the legacy of Kosaku Sawada who started the garden in 1939.
