Inspiring news from California’s Mendocino Coast: In the last year, Coho Salmon returns have surged to their highest numbers since extensive monitoring began! The Noyo and Ten Mile rivers exceeded ESA recovery targets, and the Garcia and Big Rivers saw record returns. While Central California Coast Coho still have a long way to go, the improving numbers are a thrilling sign of progress—and a testament to what’s possible when we invest in healthy watersheds. For years, much of TU’s salmon and steelhead restoration work on California’s North Coast has been supported by investments from NOAA Fisheries Service. These efforts are paying off—not just for fish, but for local communities, too.
