Shabbat Shalom! Here’s a challah cover donated to the Museum from Jewish Heritage North Carolina. The word in blue is the Hebrew word “Shabbat.” The word in red is the Amharic word “Saturday.” ቅዳሜ is pronounced  Q’idamē. Amharic is the official language of Ethiopia and is spoken by many Jews of Ethiopian descent. This challah cover reminds us of the wonderful diversity within the worldwide Jewish community. (fb)
