NETWAR

NETWAR is a US-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to hosting video gaming events, specifically Local Area Network (LAN) parties and esports events, primarily in Omaha, Nebraska. The organization focuses on raising funds for local and national charities while fostering a community of gamers from diverse skill levels and backgrounds.

History

NETWAR was initially founded in 2002 by Travis Kreikemeier, though it originated from events dating back to around 2001, initially known under different names. The organization began as a way to bring gamers together before widespread internet access and has since grown into one of the largest and longest-running LAN party events in the United States.

Events and Activities

NETWAR's events typically span over 24 to 29 hours and feature a variety of activities, including casual tournaments for all skill levels, opportunities for socializing, and competitive esports tournaments. Participants are encouraged to bring their computers or gaming consoles to participate in different types of multiplayer games. The events often include popular titles such as League of Legends, Overwatch, Valorant, Fortnite, and more.

Charitable Work

NETWAR is deeply involved in charitable work, particularly through its partnership with organizations like Gamers Outreach. One of their notable projects involves providing "GO Karts," which are gaming kiosks designed for use in medical environments. These kiosks help reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness for children in hospitals by offering them entertainment and recreational options at their bedside. As of recent reports, NETWAR has successfully provided and supported numerous GO Karts in local Omaha hospitals.

In addition to the GO Kart project, NETWAR also supports a range of other charities, including the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Omaha Open Door Mission, Toys for Tots, Disability American Veterans, and the Nebraska Humane Society. By 2024, the organization had raised over $140,000 for these causes.

Sponsorship and Community

NETWAR relies on the support of sponsors and the gaming community to host its events. The organization receives significant contributions from companies such as Cox, Great Plains Communications, FiberFirst, Seasonic, and Fractal Design, among others. These sponsorships are crucial for ensuring the success and quality of the events, providing high-speed internet, gaming hardware, and other essential resources. The events are attended by hundreds of supporters from the local and broader gaming community.
