Beyond the Box Initiative's main goal is to eliminate structural barriers to higher education, housing, employment and civic participation for people who have criminal convictions. To achieve this goal, we advocate for the removal of policies in place that make it difficult for the people who have a criminal record, to be admitted to educational institutions. We also aim to help formerly incarcerated—current and prospective—college students achieve success by providing meaningful support during the admissions process and beyond because education is a gateway to social and economic mobility.
