This Friday, May 16, the Oakland Symphony presents the reprise of Paul Robeson: Here I Stand. Good seats remain. The truths Paul Robeson spoke deemed him subversive. Blacklisted, Robeson published “Here I Stand” his autobiographical manifesto at the dawn of the Civil Rights movement. His words still resound and are set to music by @carlos_simon_music and a libretto by @danwymbsharder commissioned by the Oakland Symphony. The evening includes the performance of @jasminebarnes “Sometimes I Cry” set to the poetry of Tupac Shakur and concludes with Brahms’ lyrical Second Symphony. (fb)
