🍃Preserving Buddhist Heritage: The Fragile Palm Leaves Foundation🍃 Prof. Peter Skilling founded Fragile Palm Leaves in 1994 when he realized that historically valuable palm-leaf manuscripts were being sold as souvenirs in the markets of Thailand and neighboring countries. Today, FPL has expanded its efforts to conserve, digitize, and study the Buddhist manuscripts and visual arts of Southeast Asia. FPL’s collection includes Pali texts important for Theravada Buddhist studies, along with ceremonial manuscripts, chests, and traditional binding ribbons. Since 2016, the foundation has partnered with the Buddhist Digital Resource Center to digitize its manuscripts, and it is also documenting manuscripts, murals, and inscriptions at temples and museums across Thailand, Malaysia, and Cambodia.
