🌟 Exciting news from Leadership Houston Class XLIII! Today, they unveiled their 2025 class project: “Seats of History: A Tribute to Houston’s Wards Through Art” 🎨 Located in Johnny Goyen Park at 1 N Milam St, these six benches, beautifully painted by students from Houston's Six Ward neighborhoods and the talented muralist @EMPYRE, celebrate the unique spirit of our community. While those original ward boundaries no longer exist as City of Houston government districts, the cultures and identities of those six wards still thrive and make up parts of the beautiful history and diversity of Houston. The six benches now sit along the Buffalo Bayou Hike and Bike Trail overlooking the city of Houston skyline in Johnny Goyen Park, adjacent to University of Houston-Downtown Academic Building (ACAD). “Each ward has its own soul, its own rhythm, and its own story. My goal was to listen, to learn, and then to translate that into art that feels rooted and real," stated the artist, Carlos Alcaraz. At today’s unveiling, in celebration of the installation, elected officials from across Houston joined Leadership Houston Class XLIII, LH alumni, and youth participants who helped paint the benches through a partnership with Communities In Schools of Houston and Urban Enrichment Institute.
