What can we do to address the burnout crisis amongst social workers? Making justice a reality relies on countless case managers, mental health counselors, peer mentors, and more. But many of the people who deliver these vital services are navigating trauma on all sides. To close out #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth we released a special episode of our New Thinking podcast. Hear from some of our staff about their experiences with vicarious trauma and how we can support those struggling with it. We spoke with Ruth O’Sullivan, our Senior Director of Clinical Practice, who has made it her mission to confront the problem of vicarious trauma among our staff head on. That mission is informed by Ruth’s own experiences with trauma after a decade operating our Brooklyn Mental Health Court. You’ll also hear from Mary-Ann Louis, a clinical coordinator with our Strong Starts Court Initiative, and Marie Tsalughelashvili, a mental health counselor with our @manhattanjustice, who talk about the urgency of their daily work, and the toll that work can take. 🎧 Listen today at the link in our bio. 🔗 (fb)
