These changes are a tough blow to students from marginalized communities and undermines the goals of the IDEAL program, which is described as “immensely valuable” to Stanford.

On March 25, 2025, Rümeysa Öztürk (a Turkish PhD student) was arrested by ICE agents, who allegedly denied her constitutional rights and identification of themselves. The arrest comes after Öztürk’s participation in pro-Palestinian journalism on Tuffs campus — a protective act of free speech being trampled on by the Trump administration. This is not new with hundreds of visa revocations sweeping the country — many attributed to Pro-Palestinian sentiments and American nativism and xenophobia.
