Primarily Possums

Primarily Possums, Inc. is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation. Based in Northeast Georgia, it focuses primarily on opossums, as well as other small mammals such as bats, bunnies, and armadillos.

History and Mission

The organization was founded by Suzie DeGrasse, who began her journey in wildlife rehabilitation by volunteering at AWARE in Lithonia, Georgia, in 2014. DeGrasse acquired her rehabilitation permits in 2015 and formally established Primarily Possums as a nonprofit in 2021. The mission of Primarily Possums is to rescue, rehabilitate, release, and support the injured and orphaned native wildlife of Northeast Georgia, providing educational services to the local community.

Founder

Suzie DeGrasse, the founder of Primarily Possums, holds a Master’s in Library and Information Science. Her background in information science aids in managing patient records and sharing knowledge about wildlife care. Her experience began under the guidance of mentors at AWARE and includes learning specialized skills such as intubation, wound care, and fluid therapy.

Primarily Possums engages with the public through interviews and educational content, such as podcasts and video interviews, to raise awareness about wildlife rescue and rehabilitation. The organization also maintains a presence on social media platforms to share updates and enlist support for its mission.
