The 2024 Charlotte Startup Ecosystem Report (CSER24), led by nonprofit Innovate Charlotte and funded by the City of Charlotte & the Principal Foundation, shows how rapidly the city’s startup ecosystem is growing. For example, from 2019-23: 🔷 $1.5 billion raised across 261 venture capital deals throughout the Charlotte region. 🔷 Businesses received 46% more competitive federal startup awards vs. the previous four-year period. Opportunities ahead: 🟢 UNC Charlotte achieved Carnegie R1 research status, marking it among the nation's top research institutions. 🟡 Wake Forest University School of Medicine–Charlotte, the region’s first four-year medical school, will debut as the centerpiece for The Pearl—a life sciences innovation district.
