In September 2021 the Doris Day Animal League merged with and into Humane Society Legislative Fund. Humane Society Legislative Fund was the sole surviving entity of the merger. Subsequently in 2025 Humane Society Legislative Fund changed its name to Humane World Action Fund.

Here’s a fact: There’s no humane way to slaughter horses. Their sensitive and skittish nature means they are very difficult to render unconscious, prolonging their suffering. The fear and distress horses experience in the slaughterhouse environment often leads to panic, increasing the risk of serious injury before they are slaughtered.

Rescued from the Tennessee Walking Horse show industry, where trainers often inflict pain on a horse’s hooves and legs to exaggerate their gait in a cruel practice known as soring, Pride is one of the lucky ones. His handlers were successfully prosecuted, and he will live the rest of his life in peace, on his own terms, at the Black Beauty Ranch sanctuary. But horses just like him continue to suffer and they need your help.
