It was a perfect day for deep-sea fishing, and Leslie “Les” Brooks couldn’t imagine a better way to celebrate 35 years of marriage with his wife, Kelly, than reeling in red snappers together. They were 50 miles off the coast when Les collapsed. As an experienced emergency room nurse whose career began over 20 years ago at our CHRISTUS facility in Jasper, Kelly immediately recognized the signs of a stroke: facial drooping and weakness on the left side.
