We honor and celebrate the life of Charles Burrell, a musical pioneer whose extraordinary journey changed American music forever. Known as “the Jackie Robinson of classical music,” Burrell broke barriers as one of the first Black musicians to perform with major symphony orchestras—including his groundbreaking role with the Denver Symphony in 1949 and later, the San Francisco Symphony. His influence has extended to Elevation CLT's multi-family affordable condo property in Five Points--as he helped shape the neighborhood's legacy as the “Harlem of the West.
