We wrapped up the second year of sampling for our winter juvenile black sea bass survey last month! We collaborated with three vessels, the F/Vs Catherine Ann, New Hope, and Johnny B, who sampled from January to April using custom ventless fish pots covered in a fine mesh designed to capture small black sea bass that may be overwintering in Rhode Island waters. Similar to last year, we did not catch any juvenile black sea bass until April, and fewer, but smaller, fish were caught compared to last year. We have one more season of sampling for this survey in 2026! (fb)
