Brain Foundation
The Brain Foundation (TBF) of Fairfax, VA provides non term-limited housing for persons with serious, persistent brain disease (e.g. schizophrenia and bipolar disorder) but are otherwise capable of living independently with minimal mental health services. TBF owns nine (9) four-bedroom homes (called “Laura's Houses") in Fairfax County to house a total of 36 mentally disabled individuals. Many of these residents were formerly homeless or vulnerable to becoming homeless. TBF partners with Pathway Homes, the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB), and PRS mental health services who provide supportive services that allow each resident to maintain as much independence as feasible. Each resident of a Laura's House pays 30% of their income to TBF for rent, with the foundation committed to raising the necessary funds to pay the remainder of the housing costs to include repairs and maintenance, Home Owner Association dues, and utilities
