Even in facilities with the most dedicated workers and topquality programs many seniors go weeks or years without contact from family or outside friends. Coupled with loss of independence and failing health their daily existence is often one of isolation and despair. Approximately 50 of nursing home residents suffer from depression according to the American Geriatrics Society.
