Every year on June 17th, the global community comes together to observe World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of sustainable land management and the urgent need to protect one of Earth’s most valuable resources, soil.   Desertification and drought are pressing global issues, as fertile soils turn to dust, agricultural productivity diminishes.

As we observe Juneteenth, a day that marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, it is imperative to reflect on the profound contributions of Black Americans to our agricultural history. This celebration is not just about liberation; it is also about recognizing the rich legacy and the invaluable skills that Black farmers and agriculturalists have bestowed upon our society.   U.
