Huge thanks to Port Milwaukee and Holcim for hosting the 2nd Port Leadership & Career Summit! This year, our FUL Leadership Creators and Advocates, through a partnership with Project Kindred, explored careers in engineering, global trade, shipping, trucking, logistics, environmental science, and maritime industries. One of the day’s highlights? A tour of the articulated tug/barge G.L. Ostrander Integrity—an incredible experience where students learned firsthand from crew members who spend 30 days at sea before returning home for 14 days of rest. Experiences like these plant seeds of curiosity, opening our students’ minds to the vast possibilities that exist across industries. On May 16th, FUL’s Executive Director, Darnell A. Hamilton, moderated a panel at the Teach For America (TFA) Milwaukee Teacher Pathway Student Conference held at UW-Milwaukee. The panel focused on how teaching experiences sharpen skillsets and affirm values that are transferable and critical in other careers, such as adaptability, leadership, advocacy, relationship building, and communication. Darnell's participation in the conference highlights his commitment to empowering Milwaukee's youth through civic leadership, both inside and outside the classroom. His leadership at FUL focuses on holistic development, exposing young people to various aspects of the world they live in, and nurturing their growth towards civic leadership.
