For over 60 years, Evergreen Life Services has empowered individuals with disabilities to live full, meaningful lives of their choosing. Our story began in 1959, when the parents of four young men with developmental disabilities envisioned a brighter future for their children. Their dream gave rise to Evergreen School, founded in an abandoned schoolhouse in Evergreen, Louisiana, with support from the Presbyterian Church. Evergreen School was not just a place—rather a promise: to create opportunities where everyone could thrive, contribute, and be valued members of society. As the years unfolded, our vision expanded. In the 1980s, we transformed from institutional care to innovative community-based services. This pivotal shift empowered individuals to live independently while receiving personalized support. By 1993, over 90% of those we served were flourishing in community settings—an achievement that reflects our unwavering commitment to inclusion and independence. Today, Evergreen serves nearly 1,000 individuals across seven states—Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Florida. Our services are as diverse as the people we serve. From residential programs and vocational training to independent living assistance and day programs, we meet each individual where they are, celebrating their strengths and fostering a sense of belonging.
