Despite fierce resistance, the House has passed the Republican-led “One Big, Beautiful” budget bill demanded by President Trump. Built upon heinous cuts to Medicaid and SNAP as well as catastrophic public lands giveaways, the bill is a handout for the rich and gift to the Trump administration. As it stands, the bill will force mining leases next to the Boundary Waters, jumpstart leasing in the Arctic Refuge, mandate regular drilling on public lands and trample judicial review. The Wilderness Society's president, Tracy Stone-Manning, said, “We appreciate Rep. Zinke's work to prevent the House from selling our public lands to pay for tax cuts for the rich. But even without selling off public lands, the so-called ‘one big beautiful bill’ is just one big giveaway... We now call on the Senate to protect our public lands for future generations and reject this massive giveaway to powerful corporate interests.” (fb)
