Have intel on these unusual flash hiders? We're looking into a unique modification seen on some 390th Bomb Group (H) B-17Gs—special flash hiders fitted to the chin turret guns. Two well-known Forts, 42-31114 "Prowlin' Tom" and 42-39926 "Yankee Doodle Dandy," clearly carried them. Wartime photos even show the images censored to obscure the detail—why? These hiders differ from the standard type often seen on B-17 tail guns and most other chin turrets . Why were they used on the chin turret in select cases? Was it a performance, visibility, or secrecy issue? And did other bomb groups experiment with the same setup? If you’ve seen this mod elsewhere—or know anything about it—we’d love to hear from you. Drop a comment or message us with leads! Today we remember. At the entrance to the 390th Memorial Museum, the names of 670 young men greet every visitor. They are more than names—they are sons, brothers, and friends who never came home. Each letter carved in stone is a quiet reminder of their sacrifice and the high cost of freedom. On this Memorial Day, we honor their courage, their duty, and the legacy they left behind. Let us never forget. #MemorialDay #390thMemorialMuseum #RememberTheFallen #WWII #HonorAndSacrifice (fb)
