https://t.co/n16AWpQzAO The Metro East Literacy Project (MELP) is a St. Louis area 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization. The purpose of the Metro East Literacy Project (MELP) is to create a culture of reading in the home that will transform the educational and life outcomes of families. We recognize that the home is the powerhouse and the starting point of literacy culture. Therefore, we encourage and empower the adults to model reading in the home by reading for themselves as well as to their children. We give free books to adults and children, promote libraries, give reading lessons, and create quality reading experiences. MELP supports strategies to encourage third graders to read on grade level. Overall, it is the vision of MELP to build a community of avid, lifelong readers who understand and appreciate the inherent value of reading.
