Columbia Gorge Wind and Water Association

The Columbia Gorge Wind and Water Association (CGW2) is a nonprofit organization based in the Columbia River Gorge, established in 1987. Recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization, CGW2 serves as a membership-based community for enthusiasts of wind and water sports, promoting activities such as windsurfing, kiteboarding, and other related sports in the gorge area.

Mission and Objectives

The principal mission of CGW2 is to advocate for the wind-riding community while ensuring safe and abundant access to water sports locations within the Columbia Gorge. The association focuses on several key objectives:

  • Promoting Water Sports: CGW2 actively promotes various wind-driven water sports to enhance participation and enjoyment within the community.

  • Access Improvement: The organization collaborates with private landowners, government entities, and Native American tribes to develop and maintain access points to the Columbia River, facilitating safe entry for water sports activities.

  • Youth Programs: CGW2 supports youth engagement through programs such as the "Groms" and "A-Team," which provide young beginners with access to affordable equipment, instruction, and safe environments to learn windsurfing.

Community Engagement

Over the years, CGW2 has played a significant role in establishing the Columbia Gorge as a global destination for water sports enthusiasts. The association fosters a strong community spirit among its members, hosting events such as the annual Spring Swap Meet, which aims to bring together wind and water sports enthusiasts to exchange gear and share experiences.

Events and Activities

CGW2 regularly organizes events to promote community involvement and awareness of water sports. These activities not only enhance local engagement but also provide opportunities for members to network and learn more about safety measures and environmental stewardship related to water sports.

Conclusion

The Columbia Gorge Wind and Water Association continues to be a vital organization in the Columbia River Gorge, advocating for the wind-riding community while ensuring sustainable practices and safe access to the region's abundant water resources. Through its dedication to the promotion of wind and water sports, CGW2 aims to inspire future generations to appreciate and enjoy the natural beauty of the Gorge.
