In 1998 through a partnership between the North Carolina Medical Society Sponsor Medical Mutual Insurance of NC MMICNC now Curi and Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina Third Party Administrator the North Carolina Medical Society Employee Benefit Trust was formed as a funding mechanism for the NCMS Plan. The Trust is a Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement defined by North Carolina Insurance Law and qualifies under Internal Revenue Code section 501c9.
