Many studies dating back to the 1980s have shown direct correlations between varying types of school discipline and negative life outcomes such as dropout addiction and jail. The link between school discipline and incarceration really took off with zerotolerance policies in the 1980s as part of the War on Drugs and continued through 1990s and 2000s with increased police presence in schools.
