Mark Stebbins Community Center
Building stronger families and brighter futures for children throughout New Hampshire through generosity, collaboration, and gratitude.
Mark Stebbins Community Center
The Mark Stebbins Community Center is a nonprofit organization based in Manchester, New Hampshire. It is named after Mark Stebbins, a prominent local philanthropist and entrepreneur who was deeply involved in the community's nonprofit sector for many years.
Background
Mark Stebbins was a Manchester native and a successful business leader, notably serving as the Chairman and CEO of PROCON, a leading design and construction firm in New Hampshire. He was also involved in various other business ventures, including XSS Hotels, Stebbins Commercial Properties, Monarch Communities, and Coolcore. Stebbins was known for his generosity and support of community causes, particularly those benefiting families and children throughout New Hampshire.
Stebbins was a strong advocate for collaboration among nonprofits, encouraging them to work together to achieve greater impact. His philanthropic legacy includes significant donations to various organizations such as the Manchester Boys and Girls Club, Easterseals NH/VT, the YMCA of Manchester, Waypoint, and Granite United Way.
Mission and Purpose
The Mark Stebbins Community Center aims to honor Stebbins' legacy by providing a range of social services from multiple nonprofits under one roof. The center focuses on supporting families and children on the West Side of Manchester, offering collaborative services to build stronger families and brighter futures.
Key services envisioned for the center include affordable childcare, after-school care, access to affordable healthcare, community meeting spaces, and other support services tailored for youth and families. Organizations like the Boys & Girls Club and Amoskeag Health are expected to provide these services in partnership with other nonprofits.
Establishment and Development
In November 2021, plans for the Mark Stebbins Community Center were initiated with the support of the Stebbins Family and over 30 community and nonprofit leaders. The center is established as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
By December 2023, the project had secured a new location on Manchester's West Side through a partnership with the Manchester Housing and Redevelopment Authority (MHRA). A 75-year lease was signed for the land, with MHRA agreeing to lease it to the center for a nominal fee. The center's board is responsible for raising funds for the construction and operational costs through donations and grants.
The center's development aligns with ongoing discussions among Manchester's community leaders about how best to support the West Side area. The new facility will provide accessible services for local residents, enhancing the community's resources for youth and family support.
Financial and Operational Details
The Mark Stebbins Community Center operates with a designated EIN of 87-4002783. It relies on fundraising efforts from individuals, local foundations, companies, and government funding sources for all construction and operational expenses, ensuring that taxpayers are not responsible for any costs associated with the center.
Legacy and Impact
The center continues Mark Stebbins' legacy of philanthropy and community support in Manchester. By fostering collaboration and centralized services, it aims to make a significant positive impact on the lives of families and children in the area.
