The mission of Oakland Community Housing Inc. (OCHI) is to make a positive impact on people's lives by producing and managing quality affordable housing, including rental and home ownership units. A large portion of the Oakland and East Bay population, including many families with moderate as well as low incomes, cannot find adequate housing that they can afford, and live in crowded conditions or commute long distances to work. About 80% of the population cannot afford to buy the median priced home in Alameda County. While the fastest growing housing need in our region is among people with moderate incomes, those with the lowest incomes also face increasingly limited options, as the gap between market rents and what they can afford grows every year.
