Wild Souls Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation

Overview

Wild Souls Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation is a nonprofit organization, registered as a 501(c)(3) charitable entity, located in Blue Springs, Missouri. It was founded by a Native American woman and operates primarily through volunteer efforts and donations. The organization is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating sick, injured, or orphaned wild animals, with a focus on promoting coexistence between humans and wildlife.

Mission and Activities

The mission of Wild Souls includes the humane rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife, with a notable emphasis on native Missouri mammals and federally protected birds of prey, such as owls, hawks, and falcons. The organization provides around-the-clock medical care and maintains a 24/7 hotline for public inquiries and assistance.

Wild Souls is recognized for its high success rate in rehabilitation, averaging approximately 900 animals annually, with an impressive release rate of 88%. This success is attributed to the individualized care each animal receives at their facility.

Educational Initiatives

In addition to rehabilitation efforts, Wild Souls places significant emphasis on educating the public about peaceful coexistence with wildlife. The organization offers guidance on humane eviction strategies and reuniting techniques to ensure that wildlife remains in their natural habitats whenever possible. They engage with local communities through public outreach and education programs, collaborating with various stakeholders, including conservation agents, schools, and other wildlife rehab centers.

Community Engagement

Wild Souls actively participates in community events and projects, including partnerships with local authorities and environmental organizations. One notable engagement is the "Shop with a Conservation Agent" program, which fosters educational relationships between children and conservation professionals. This initiative aims to inspire future generations to appreciate and protect wildlife.

Diversity and Inclusion

While specific details about Wild Souls' internal equity policies are limited, they acknowledge the importance of promoting race equity and inclusion in their organizational practices. They strive to engage diverse backgrounds in leadership and community advisory roles, aligning with broader goals of promoting environmental stewardship and community engagement.

Conclusion

Wild Souls Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation plays a vital role in wildlife conservation and education in Missouri. By combining rehabilitation services with public education, they effectively promote a culture of coexistence between humans and wildlife, ensuring a safer environment for both.
