Heritage Emory Grove Community Development Corporation
The Heritage Emory Grove Community Development Corporation (HEG) is a redevelopment project in partnership with the Housing Opportunities Commission (HOC) of Montgomery County and Emory Grove United Methodist Church (EGUMC). The redevelopment plan is projected to create 36 total units of for sale affordable mixed income housing comprised of 8 single family homes, 8 townhouses and 20 stacked duplex units. In addition to the sale of these units, HOC is also updating the Upper County Community Center and Johnson's Local Park.HEG will use the Community Center to develop and manage programs to provide historical and cultural activities to honor the community originally founded by freed African Americans in 1864. In addition, HEG will assist in the establishment of a community garden in Johnson's Local Park to enhance community camaraderie. The Emory Grove United Methodist Church is one of the few remaining historical structures of the historic community.
