On Friday, May 2, 2025, KYCC Prevention Education held its 9th Annual Flores de Mayo event at the Garden Suite Hotel in Koreatown. Since its inception in 2017, Flores de Mayo has been celebrated each year to advocate for an alcohol-free atmosphere, challenging the cultural notion that celebrations and gatherings can only be enjoyable with alcoholic drinks. This year’s theme, “We Are Flowers of Resilience: We Persist, We Heal, We Bloom,” emphasizes the strength of unity during challenging times. In spite of the difficulties our community has encountered, they have consistently demonstrated resilience, hope, and a dedication to healing and growth. The Prevention Community Council (PCC) parent groups actively involve more than 150 community members who gain from KYCC services, Prevention Education programs, and weekly resources provided by the PCC Leadership Team. The individuals honored during this event have shown remarkable engagement in numerous initiatives, such as the Botvin LifeSkills for Adults curriculum, Evento de Arte: Red Ribbon Week, El Mercadito Mágico, the Salud y Bienestar Prevention Summit, Train the Trainer, the Changing Communities Series, and various collaborative projects with other KYCC programs. Volunteers needed this Saturday to help beautify Koreatown in honor of AAPI Heritage Month! Join the City of LA and KYCC on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Trinity-Central Lutheran Church, located at 987 S. Gramercy Pl., LA 90019. Street parking is typically available west of Wilton Place. Volunteers can also park for free at Koreatown Plaza, which is only a short 8–10-minute walk from the church.
