Following Francis

Following Francis is a non-religious, non-profit service organization founded in 2011. It is driven entirely by volunteers and aims to provide free programs and activities to support marginalized communities, particularly children and families. The organization is inspired by the values of Francis of Assisi, emphasizing love, service, respect, and compassion[1].

Programs

Following Francis offers several programs tailored to different regions and needs:

• Francis in the Schools: This program began in San Francisco and offers educational field trips for children from impoverished neighborhoods. It also provides gifts such as quality clothes, shoes, groceries, books, educational toys, and needed supplies. Nearly 20,000 children have participated in Francis in the Schools events[2].

• Francis in the Dunes: This program serves children and families in economically challenged neighborhoods by providing summer outings, groceries, toiletries, beds, bikes, and educational toys[5].

• Francis on the Hill: Focused on Washington, D.C., particularly the Columbia Heights neighborhood, this program supplies free groceries, diapers, clothing, and other essentials. It also contributes to community beautification and supports Ukrainian refugees[3]. In 2023, Francis on the Hill distributed nearly 500,000 free diapers[3].

• Francis & Los Angeles: Expanding the organization's reach to Los Angeles, this initiative supports children and families experiencing homelessness by providing cash, food, and other gifts[1].

Volunteer Opportunities
