By Annie Powell, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, promotes the life and work of pioneering Lowell photographer Annie Powell (b. 1859, West Yorkshire, England. 1952, Lowell MA) through the acquisition, preservation, authentication of her images, scholarly research, and by organizing public exhibitions, events, and educational programs. As champions of Powells work our aim is to create a place for her in the diverse narrative of Lowell, Massachusetts.

Annie Powell (1859-1952) recently discovered woman photographer of Lowell, MA Preserving the life and legacy of a Lowell photographer 60 years and over 3000 masterful photos Who was Annie Powell. In 1891 a 31yearold woman from West Yorkshire England named Annie Powell boarded a steamship and traveled ahead of her husband to the United States. She was a skilled photographer and chose to leave the English countryside on her own to start a new life and career in Lowell Massachusetts. Her sister and brotherinlaw awaited her and helped her to find work.
