Description

Stork's Nest Charity Fund of Dallas

The Stork's Nest Charity Fund of Dallas (SNCFD) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving as the charitable arm of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Kappa Zeta Chapter[5]. It operates primarily in the Dallas area, focusing on providing health, education, and resources to families and individuals, with a special emphasis on low-income expectant mothers and their babies[4].

Mission and Objectives

SNCFD supports the Stork's Nest Education Program (SNEP), a national initiative of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., in collaboration with the March of Dimes Foundation. The program aims to:

  • Encourage low-income expectant mothers to seek early and continued prenatal care.
  • Provide necessary maternity and layette items to mothers and babies.
  • Distribute educational materials on prenatal care.
  • Offer educational seminars covering key topics such as prenatal care, nutrition, and parenting[1].

Activities and Services

The organization establishes distribution sites, known as "Nests," where expectant mothers can receive essential items like maternity clothes and baby furniture at minimal or no cost. These services are supported by referrals from hospitals, clinics, and health centers. Educational programs consist of seven sessions, addressing topics such as infant care and genetics[1].

SNCFD also supports community outreach and scholarship initiatives. Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors or GED students who have completed the Stork's Nest Education Program, encouraging further education and success[3].

Focus and Impact

SNCFD serves communities in Collin and Dallas counties, focusing particularly on supporting Black, African American, Hispanic, or Latinx populations. The organization operates with an annual budget of less than $100,000, emphasizing equity and leadership within diverse communities[2]. Through its work, SNCFD contributes to healthier outcomes for newborns and enhanced well-being for families by providing critical resources and education.
