THE COUNCIL FACILITATES THE COMMUNICATION OF AREAS OF COMMON INTEREST AMONG SENIOR PUBLIC HIGHER EDUCATION LEADERSHIP. SUPPORTED BY THE BYLAWS OF THE COUNCIL OF PRESIDENTS, AS FOLLOWS: THE COUNCIL'S EXPRESS PURPOSE IS TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS OF PUBLIC SENIOR COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES IN TEXAS THROUGH A COOPERATIVE SYSTEM OF COMMUNICATION AMONG REPRESENTATIVES OF THESE INSTITUTIONS, WHICH SHALL SERVE AS A MEANS OF EXCHANGING IDEAS AND EXPERTISE CONCERNING PROBLEMS SHARED BY THOSE INSTITUTIONS. THE COUNCIL'S EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR GATHERS AND DISSEMINATES INFORMATION TO THE 53 MEMBER INSTITUTIONS AND SYSTEM OFFICES THROUGH THE DISTRIBUTION OF NEWS CLIPPINGS, NEWSLETTERS, AND ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS (EMAIL). MATERIAL IS ALSO FURNISHED TO THE PUBLIC, STATE AGENCIES IN TEXAS AND OTHER STATES, AND TO THE PRESS ON AN INFORMAL BASIS AND IN RESPONSE TO SPECIFIC REQUESTS.
