Mythbusting Monday: Part of spreading awareness about mental health includes breaking stigmas, which is why we'll take this Monday to "bust a myth" about mental health. One common misconception about mental health is that "I can't do anything for a person with a mental health issue." The fact? Friends and loved ones can make a big difference. In 2020, only 20% of adults received any mental health treatment in the past year, which included 10% who received counseling or therapy from a professional. Friends and family can be important influences to help someone get the treatment and services they need by: 👍 Reaching out and letting them know you are available to help 👍 Helping them access mental health services 👍 Help them learn self-care and coping techniques 👍 Learning and sharing facts about mental health, especially if you hear something that isn't true 👍 Treating them with respect, just as you would anyone else 👍 Refusing to define them by their diagnosis or using labels such as "crazy," instead use person-first language (Source: SAMHSA) (fb)

As part of our new “GRAND Changemaker” campaign, spotlighting incredible individuals who are making a real difference in our community, it’s a great honor to recognize Tulsa Police Department Officer, Demita Kinard, Licensed Professional Counselor. Officer Kinard bridges the gap between policing and mental health in our great city – working with other police officers to ensure they get the behavioral support they need. She is making a difference for her brothers and sisters in blue, so they can continue to make a difference for us. As part of May Mental Health Awareness Month, we thank you Officer Kinard and celebrate you as a GRAND Changemaker! #Changemaker #MakingHistorybyBreakingHistory #DifferenceMaker #Tulsa #police #mentalhealth (fb)
