ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These are our neighbors who work hard but are unable to cover essential expenses, such as housing, childcare, and healthcare. In 2023, 50% of Louisiana households lived below the ALICE Threshold, including 19% in poverty and 30% identified as ALICE. That's over 900,000 families doing their best but still coming up short. Louisiana ranks #1 in financial hardship nationwide. When ALICE struggles, we all feel the impact. However, when ALICE thrives, communities grow stronger. Local businesses benefit, our economy gets a boost, and families can finally focus on building a stable future, not just making it through the month. We proudly accepted a proclamation from Lafayette Consolidated Government recognizing April as Second Chance Month, a time to affirm the value of second chances and the importance of supporting individuals as they return from incarceration. Through the ReEntry Coalitions of the 15th and 16th Judicial Districts, supported by United Way of Acadiana and in partnership with organizations like Beacon Community Connections, Acadiana Workforce Solutions, Acadiana Legal Service Corporation, VOTE, FFLICC, South Louisiana Community College, One Acadiana, Goodwill Acadiana , LPSS , The Family Tree Information, Education, & Counseling Center and many more, we are working to remove barriers to reentry and create real opportunities for returning citizens to thrive.
